Alien is a 1979 science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott.
Swiss designer H.R. Giger designed the Alien. Five sequels have been shot until today after the movie "Creature" was a great success at the box office.
The film, nominated for the Academy Awards for Best Art Direction and Best Effects in 1980, was deemed worthy of this award in the Effects category. "Creature" was selected as one of the "culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant" films by the Library of Congress in 2002. It was decided to be preserved in the US National Film Registry.
While the cargo ship is returning from its Nostromo mission, its main computer, "Mother," receives a signal from a nearby planet and orders the 7-man crew (Ripley, Parker, Ash, Dallas, Lambert, Brett, and Kane) to search it. A team of 3 lands on the planet. Kane (John Hurt) discovers strange eggs. A scorpion-like Alien emerges from the egg he examines, burns Kane's helmet with acid, and sticks to his face. Lambert and Dallas bring back Kane. Despite Ripley's objections to complying with the quarantine rules, Ash takes them on board, triggering a gruesome chain of events.
Extraterrestrial life is life whose origin is not Earth. Although there are currently hypotheses that there may be life in the form of simple bacteria outside of Earth, no extraterrestrial life has been observed to date. They know that studying extraterrestrial life is called astrobiology.
There are different estimates of the origin of life outside of Earth. According to one view, life arose separately in different parts of the universe. Another view is panspermia, according to which life arose once at some point in the universe and spread to planets suitable for life. These extraterrestrial life forms can range from the simplicity of bacterial forms to the complexity of humanoid intelligent beings.
The first person to attempt scientific communication with aliens was astronomer Frank Drake. Drake, who was at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in West Virginia, used a 25-meter radio observatory dish in 1960 to listen for signals from two nearby sun-like stars.
